A cosy sunday afternoon

Overview table

My feeds on social media have been filled with holiday related pictures. Everybody seems to be preparing for Christmas and I absolutely love it! The past few days have been dark, gloomy and rainy and I kind of need those festive twinkling lights, candles and christmas trees.

On saturday we went to Amsterdam to buy some gifts and food. We went to Petit Gateau (Haarlemmerstraat 80, Amsterdam), a French patisserie, to buy ourselves some delicious tartlets. We had them this afternoon with coffee and they’re amazing! It gave me that festive feeling, sitting at the table together and enjoy good food. You should definitely try out Petit Gateau whenever you find yourself in Amsterdam!

Rainy afternoon walk

IMG_0655

I’m not really a fan of rain, or at least I don’t like walking or cycling in the rain. Living in the Netherlands though means you can’t always escape from the rain. I went on a walk in the city center this afternoon and did some minor shopping as well. And I must admit; everything looks so pretty when it rains. Maybe I’m slowly starting to love rain?

Back home, I made myself a warm cup of coffee. Bought that notebook + postcard and the black crown pen. I’ve been busy practising different hand lettering styles these past few weeks. Maybe I’ll show some of my work here soon (if I feel confident enough).IMG_0652

Weekly Favorites #5

tea and chocolate in bed

While the days grow darker every day, I’m actually surprised that I’ve not been struck yet by any signs of a little winter depression. My days are even more productive than they were in summer! It sure makes me quite happy though. Here are some favorite moments from last week:

  • Best coffee/tea of the week: although I had some great coffee this week. My favorite moment was drinking this lemon tea in bed on sunday. Because sometimes staying at home and have the laziest day ever can be so good!
  • Favorite drink/food: Tony’s Chocolonely’s chocolate bars. I’ve tried the milk/discodip/popcorn for the first time and it’s incredible. Have to restrain myself from buying much more of these.
  • Best article I found on the internet: this article on BoredPanda about how the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam banned camera’s and stimulates people to sketch artwork. I think this is a really cool way to let people watch artwork more closely and more intense. Also good to help people discover their creative eye, something I can’t encourage enough as an illustrator/graphic designer.

  • Favorite pin on Pinterest: this picture because I just love coffee scenes so much. I mean don’t you want coffee straight away when you look at this?
  • Song of the week: A Little More by Bungalow. Really great song to listen while you’re working.

November walk

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetI love to go for walks these past few weeks. Whenever the weather seems okay I’m going out for a long walk and to get a coffee. I’ve always loved going for walks but ever since I’m not living with my parents and our dog anymore I just don’t go that often. During these past few weeks I discovered how happy long walks make me and that it’s doing wonders for my productivity. Working from home every day can be hard sometimes and I often feel uninspired. Walks help me clear my mind and I get inspired by looking at the life around me. I now try to go for a walk (for at least an hour) almost every day. Today I combined my walk with running some errands and took some photos along the way.

Really love this quarter of Haarlem, it’s called the Vijfhoek and has the cutest little alleyways. I went to Brandmeester’s for a coffee and drank it outside (oh yeah November!).

Favorite coffee #4

Last week has been a very busy week. My to do list never seemed to get to an end and I felt a little bit stressed out. On friday I decided that I should slow it down a bit, so I took a moment to calm down which helped me to get my head clear again. I worked a little more on friday evening and on saturday which helped me to meet my deadlines. The good things of this week:

  • Best coffee of the week: this coffee made at home. The beans were from Stooker Roasting co and I used my chemex to brew the coffee.
  • Favorite drink/food: a well deserved glass of whiskey on saturday evening. We’ve bought a bottle of The Naked Grouse (from The Famous Grouse) a while ago.
  • Favorite pin on Pinterest: this morning scene with croissants. I love croissants so much!
  • Best article I found on the internet: this article on Bleubird about arguing between couples and making compromises. The comments are also quite interesting!

  • Song of the week: Slow Show by Coeur de Pirate,  this is the best cover of a song by the National I’ve ever heard!

Weekly Favorites #3

Coffee BruI really love the bright and warmer autumn days that we’re getting these last couple of days. Here are some favorite things from last week:

  • Best coffee of the week: this cappuccino from Coffee Bru that we enjoyed outside. We also shared a piece of carrot cake, which looked delicious but sadly didn’t taste as good as it looked.
  • Favorite drink/food: chocolate bars and fudge that we bought at Stach for Halloween night. I really love the packaging of these yummy chocolate bars. The fudge packaging has been illustrated by Gemma Correll. One of my favorite illustrators who makes funny and cute illustrations.
